A Chinese Relief Carved Jar with Dragon in Waves

Qing dynasty (1644-1912), a unique and very fine porcelain jar carved to exterior with a whiskered dragon having large expressive eyes swimming through swirling waves with parts of his body peaking through the combed curls of water, large crazing throughout the container, with fitted copper bronze ring to protect rim, may have been a seal paste or rouge container.

Only lower portion of box; later fitted copper bronze ring to rim; some red staining from previously stored seal or rouge paste in the box; pronounced crazing visible through the carved porcelain; paper label has been removed from piece and is now separate, but still with lot.
