EDWARD S. CURTIS. At the Old Well of Acoma, 1904. 5.8x7.8" platinum print. Print date c. 1904. Signed in ink lower right. Copyright Embossment lower left: Copyright 1904/E.S. Curtis. Inscribed in negative: x165-04. Hinged to modern rag board. Accompanied by original dark brown 11x12.5" paper with 1.1x1.3" original label verso printed: This picture is copyrighted and so stamped on its face. Publishers are closely watched and infringements will be vigorously prosecuted.-E. S. Curtis. Published in Portfolio 16, Pueblo Indians, of The North American Indian. He wrote about this: "Members of Coronado's army of explorers in 1540 and Espejo in 1583 noted the 'cisterns to collect snow and water' on the rock of Acoma."

This image was one of Curtis' most popular, and he sold many platinum and silver prints and orotones and used it in his promotion.

Curtis was very protective of his copyright.

Condition

Very Good. Minor wear. Raised areas from original glue spots, original mount has spots and residue from glue and tape.
