Description
Ancient Etruscan Large Bucchero Oinochoe c.6th century BC. Size 11 1/2 inches high. 6 1/2 inches diameter. Elegant and large black glazed pottery handled pitcher having a flared rim and pour spout, wide tapered strap handle and small ring base. Tapered bulbous body decorated with a wide incised band with vertical ribs, lower body decorated with fineline incised triangular elements. Some scattered surface deposits. Handle repaired and reattached, with restored right point near the handle, a 1-1/2” restored rim chip and a couple of very minor rim flakes, several small base ring chips and a tiny probe hole in the decorative body band. All these are minor imperfections. Provenance: Ex. Artemis Gallery, CO., 6/18/2015. Ex. William OKeefe collection, NJ, acquired 7/15/1977 from Trails End Trading Post, Santa Fe, NM. Ex. estate of a retired University of Pennsylvania archaeologist who acquired it on a sanctioned dig in Italy, see the customs tag “ROMA” on handle.
