1883 John Tanner Ojibwe Tribe INDIANS Grey Hawk Native American Captive Kentucky
John Tanner was a 17th-century Kentucky native who was captured by the Ojibwe Indians when he was a young boy. He grew up being called Falcon or Grey Hawk and was best known for his involvement in fur trade with European traders. In 1830, a biographical sketch of his life amongst the Indians was published under the title “Narrative of the Captivity and Adventures of John Tanner”. This book became popular throughout America and is one of the best records of the Ojibwe tribe.
This famous biography was collected and edited by James Macaulay.
