Yi Silver Embroidered Cockscomb Hat, China, Early-Mid 20th C. Yi girls in the Honghe region of Yunnan wear cockscomb hats from the time they are 3 until they get married. The hat symbolizes good luck and happiness. It is said that the silver bubbles on the hat stand for the stars and moon and reflect eternal light. Size: 6'' x 11.5'', (15 x 29 cm). Provenance: Ex. Roger Hollander collection.
