A Maya Shell Hand Jaina Island, Yucatan, Mexico, c. 600-900 AD Finely cut and etched shell in form of a right hand with the index finger and thumb raised, the other three fingers clenched. The wrist with two bands, and the forearm in a braid or helix. In very good condition, a few dark spots and encrustations. Provenance: A Private Collection, New York, NY, acquired in 1994 John A.
