Description
Two Tairona Gold Figural Pendants Colombia, c. 700-1400 AD Both of similar size and style, made of hollow cast gold alloy (tumbaga). One holding a plant-like object in each hand with split scrolls, a large semicircular headdress with loops for attachments at base, wearing a braided headband, collar, and belt. The other a male holding a lime container (poporo) in each hand, with a large headdress of profile animal heads with circles and dot motifs under a braided arch ending in a loop for attachments. He also has a braided collar and belt, plus a segmented and grooved headband. Both with a suspension loop on the back. Both in very good condition; the smaller with casting flaws on thighs. Provenance: An estate of a private collector, Oklahoma City, OK Ex-collection of Tania Pacheco Garcia, Spain and Colombia Heights: 2 and 2 ¼ inches
