Description
Two issued certificates from Signal Petroleum Company of California, issued in 1928 and 1947. Both uncanceled. Also a common stock from Signal Oil & Gas Company issued in 1965 along with an issued preferred certificate issued in 1967. These companies likely operated at Signal Hill near Long Beach. The Signal Hill oil boom began in 1921, making California oil production one-fourth of the world's total. In 1923, the Long Beach field produced 68 million barrels of oil. In 1924, Signal Hill became one of the first cities in the United States to be completely surrounded by another city (Long Beach). There were so many oil derricks in Signal Hill, that it became known as Porcupine Hill. By the 2000's, the Signal Hill field had produced over 1 Billion barrels of oil.Date: Country (if not USA): State: CaliforniaCity: Provenance: Ken Prag Collection
