Item Details

Description

Description: This lot includes a unusual framed grouping of Silhouettes. The family is the Barrows family, and portrayed are the mother & Father, and there 4 children. The youngest being 7 years old at the time it was made. We know the exact date of the artwork since the youngest child was 7 years old when the silhouette was done, putting the piece at 1828. The composition is paper cut to a fabric background, with pencil details drawn in. Lined with silk, and in a period wood frame.

The Piece appears to be by the "Letterpress Artist" of Connecticut (actual name unknown).
An article was written about this artist:
"Families and Portraiture: New England Family Record Broadsides and Portraiture, and the Letterpress Artist of Connecticut (chapter), "The Art of Family, Genealogical Artifacts in New England" by D. Brenton Simons and Peter Benes (2002)".
