Description

AMERICAN FOLK ART PAINT-DECORATED POPLAR PICTURE FRAME, wide flat frame with applied carved spiral elements covering each corner joint. Retains original dry Spanish-brown-painted surface decorated with gold polka dots and remnants of stenciled leaves, gold-painted dashes to the inner edge surrounding the gold-painted line. All with excellent patina. Now fitted with a mirror plate. Fourth quarter 19th century. 13" x 15 1/4" overall, 8" x 10 1/4" seat.
Provenance: Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates, 11/13/2010, lot 287.
