Cotton 1840's/1850's indigo blue and white mariner's compass quilt, all hand pieced and hand quilted, with a sawtooth border. It measures 72" X 74" and is in fair condition, with age spotting and fabric deterioration in some of the blues, including the binding edge. The hand quilting is superb, with close straight line and grid designs quilted throughout at an even 12-14 stitches to the inch. The back is white, the hand stitched, worn binding is indigo blue, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light.
