4 Antique Leather & Velvet 19th Century Portrait Photo Albums. These are 4 antique photo albums that seem to be from the 19th century. Three are bound in leather, while one is bound in red velvet. The largest leather book has an emblem of a woman alongside various birds on the front and decorative details near the pages. The inside is mostly empty. The red velvet book has a vividly colored title page that says "Portraits" and photographs of people with ornate frames. One medium-sized book has a highly decorative front and what looks to be gilded pages. It has a name written near the beginning, and while part is cut off, "Ann Eldridge" and "Stoughton" are decipherable. There are also dates beginning in 1826, and ending on 5/18/1887. "WM. Nims, Artist, Ft. Edward N.Y." is stamped below the dates. We believe this to be a photographer named William Nims. Inside are black & white and sepia-toned portraits of various people, perhaps family members. The remaining book is bound in brown leather with detailing in a lovely hue of purple. There is a golden-colored ornamental detail of flowers in the middle, and a clasp on the side. There are floral details on the sides of the pages, and more portraits inside. This lot is special for the antique charm of its portraits as well as the fine craftsmanship of the photo albums themselves.

Dimensions of the smallest album are 5.5 in h x 4 in w x 2 in d. Dimensions of the largest are 11 in h x 8.5 in w x 2 in d. Condition is fair. The velvet album is missing one of the covers. Three albums have missing or damaged back strips. However, the photos inside are clear. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
