C. 1850, purchased by Shultz in 1889, the brass nameplate on the figured mahogany box reading "Gervase Wheeler" (British, 1815-1889), an architect of mid-19th C. mansions including Rockwood Hall, the home of the Rockefellers. Compass bears the initials "G.W.", the box is also impressed "C.S. Shultz"
