oil on canvas, signed and dated 1953 at lower right, presented in the likely original carved and gold painted frame.
Stretcher size 20 x 30 in.; Frame dimensions 25 1/2 x 35 in.
Joseph Roy Willis was born in Georgia, but is most closely associated with the American Southwest. He moved to New Mexico in 1917, where he bought a theatre and set up a photography studio in Gallup. In 1931, he moved to Albuquerque. Willis is referred to as the "Aspen King" for his talent at depicting the brilliantly hued trees in the landscape.
