This is an original oil painting on board by George Henry Bogert (American, 1864-1944). The framed painting features a seashore scene (appears to be Montauk) with two figures in the distance. Signed lower left. There is an old partial label on the reverse: For 61st Annual Examination, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts 1891.
Bogert studied at the National Academy of Design in New York before traveling to Paris in 1884 to work with the painters Aimé Morot and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. He returned to New York four years later to study under American painter Thomas Eakins. Bogert visited Europe many times during his life and was as well known for his dreamy images of Italy, England, and France as he was for his American scenes. Frame: 15 1/8 x 11 7/8".
