[LINCOLNIANA - MAGIC LANTERN SLIDES]. A collection of 65 assorted glass slides depicting important subjects and scenes depicting the life, death, and legacy of Abraham Lincoln, including:

28 glass slides housed in approx. 7 x 4 in. wooden mounts, some with circular openings, others with rectangular openings, including 9 by the Chicago Transparency Co. (imprint visible). -- One oversized glass slide housed in an 8 1/2 x   5 1/4 in. wooden mount (vertical crack extending through slide). -- 33 glass slides, each 4 x 3 1/4 in., unmounted, housed together in box with typewritten label reading, "Life of Lincoln." -- One mechanical chromatrope slide with brass crank (missing string). -- And 2 glass slides housed in one moving wooden frame, 4 x 14 1/4 in. fully extended. -- Together, 65 glass slides, many with remnants of original paper labels featuring typed and/or inscribed captions. Conditions generally fine, few with cracks.  

Slides feature allegorical portraiture, artwork, and photography representing the early life, family, political career, assassination, and mourning of Abraham Lincoln. Included are an allegorical representation of the meeting of Washington and Lincoln in Heaven with printed caption and McAllister label; 4 illustrated scenes depicting the assassination of Lincoln at Ford's Theatre, each with printed or inscribed captions; an illustrated depiction of Lincoln with 4 African American subjects, one kissing his hand; a photograph of the chair Lincoln sat in when he was shot; a photograph of the Lincoln Tomb in Springfield, IL with inscribed caption and Edward Van Altena imprint; an illustrated representation of the Emancipation Proclamation being read to enslaved men, women, and children, with typed caption; an illustration of the death bed of Lincoln, with two ink inscribed caption labels; and many others.
