Description
A 19TH CENTURY BASKET HILTED BROAD SWORD OF SO CALLED GARDE ECOSSAISE FORM, 96cm fullered blade with partial maker's stamp to either side of the forte, characteristic sheet bowl guard pierced with geometric designs and saltires, the underside of the guard pierced with two writhing snakes, spirally fluted pommel, wooden grip. This sword bears all the hallmarks of a number of similarly hilted swords, some are fitted with Cuirassier sword blades, broad sword blades, back sword blades and in the case of Lot 305, Antony Cribb Ltd March 2021, a finely etched blade by Coullier of Paris.
