"The Last Stand of the Dalton Boys" was a three-realer, directed by Jack Kenyon and made with the aid of Emmett Dalton, the only surviving member of the notorious Dalton gang. Emmett was part of the gang that attempted to rob the two banks in Coffeyville, Kansas, and was miraculously able to survive despite receiving 23 gunshot wounds. The film was originally released in 1911 under the title "The Last Raid of the Dalton Gang". It was also later released as "The True Life History of the Dalton Boys." After leaving his life of crime, Emmett Dalton sought to keep youths out of prison and to halt the glamorization of villains in Hollywood. Rather than boast of exploits, he used the film to illustrate his wild past as a grim example to modern youth.
