Description
Railroad pass issued by the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern RY #209 (1878), in very good condition. Please see photo for details. The line was built in 1874, acquired by Jay Gould in 1883, merged into the Missouri Pacific RR in 1917, which then merged into the Union Pacific RR in 1982. The StLIM&SRR gave its name to the Iron Mountain Baby, a five-day-old boy packed in a valise and thrown from the train into the Big River. The Iron Mountain Baby folksong was written about the rescue of the child who would be named William Moses Gould Helms by his adoptive parents.Date: Country (if not USA): State: MissouriCity: JacksonProvenance:
