Lower Palaeolithic, 500,000-130,000 BP. A small knapped bifacial hand axe of slightly ovate form; in a pale pink flint; with old collector label numbered 8 and explanatory ticket. See Evans, Sir J., The Ancient Stone Implements, Weapons and Ornaments of Great Britain, London, 2nd edition, 1897, figure 468, for similar form. 133 grams, 94mm (3 3/4"). Ex Dr. M. G. Weller collection; reputedly found near St Acheule, France, collected 19th century (with a copy of collector ticket").
