Description
23rd-20th century BC. A bronze discoid seal with openwork rosette design, accompanied by a typed and signed note by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 77 x 73 x 23mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a loop handle of inverted V-shape. The design is both compartmented and open work. It consists of an outer band with zig-zag outer edge, and within this a kind of rosette. A small circle in the middle is surrounded by six similar circles on stems, separate from each other, and struts from these six join to create 18 varied shapes inside the outer band. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a large specimen of good quality, and in fine state of preservation.' 96 grams, 76mm (3"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection number R-200, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
