Late Period, 664-332 BC. A rectangular granite cosmetic palette with chamfered underside, shallow central recess. Cf. Bourriau, J., 'Pharaohs and Mortals. Egyptian Art in the Middle Kingdom, Cambridge, 1988, p.145, no.152; see the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, accession number 15.3.1131. 402 grams, 11.6cm (4 1/2"). From the private collection of a medical professional; from the private collection of Mr A.; acquired circa 1980. Palettes such as this were used as mortars for grinding cosmetic pigments, intended for application to the face and eyes.
