He became particularly famous for his intimate portraits of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara at home - portraits many critics charged amounted to little more than propaganda for the Cuban regime. In addition to his work in Cuba, Noval also worked as a war correspondent in Vietnam and Nicaragua. His photographs have won numerous prizes around the world, and were prominently featured in A Hundred Images of the Cuban Revolution.
