Hartwell House copy.- Montjoie (Christophe Félix Louis Ventre) Éloge historique et funèbre de Louis XVIe du nom, roi de France et de Navarre, engraved portrait frontispiece of the king and a portrait of the Dauphin, some spotting and staining, 19th century half calf, spine gilt, spine ends and corners little worn, rubbed, 8vo, [Paris], Royal Printers, 1797.
⁂ An interesting association copy. The exiled Louis XVIII stayed at Hartwell House, Buckinghamshire between 1809 and 1814. Following the defeat of Napoleon Prince Louis signed the document accepting the French crown in the library of the house.
Provenance: The Rev. Sir George Lee, Bt. (engraved armorial bookplate to front pastedown); 'Hartwell Library, bound in Aylesbury by Mr. Marshall. 14 February, 1833' (ink inscription to front pastedown).
