Description
Ed White II: His U.S. Military Academy Army Letterman's Sweater from 1952. A black wool sweater by the Alex Taylor Company with Army gray letters. On the right chest is "52" above the large "A" with a gold star in the field, and below are four gold stars. White was quite the athlete at West Point, lettering in both Track and Soccer and ranking first in Physical Education all four years. As a hurdler, he missed going to the 1952 Olympics by the smallest margin at the trials. White's father was a 1924 graduate of West Point, and like him, Ed II chose the Air Force when he graduated. After a stint in Germany, he earned his master's degree in aeronautical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1959. Chosen to be an astronaut by NASA in 1962, he was the first American to walk in space during Gemini 4 in 1965. The sweater is very presentable with the occasional moth holes that one might expect after sixty years. Overall fine.
