Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A stunning pair of gold earrings with glass beads dangling from the hoops. Both are comprised of dainty wires made from 95% gold (equivalent to 22K+) that are fashioned into a hoop with a terminal loop formed by one tip twisting and wrapping back on itself. The other terminal tip has been wrapped through the loop and twisted to secure this original clasp permanently together. A modern hook post has been welded to the center of the ancient hoop to make the earrings wearable! A second ancient gold wire creates a freely dangling ornament strung with cobalt and white glass beads. This is a gorgeous ensemble of wearable artistry!
