Rauschenberg developed a process known as the transfer process using images from newspapers and magazines. They were soaked and pressed face down onto a paper surface where he would then rub back and forth across the back of the images with a dry nib. Rauschenberg embellished these with white gouache, ink washes or watercolor to give a ghostly look.
