Description
**Originally Listed At $400**

North America, Pacific Northwest Coast, Alaska, ca. 1972 CE. An intriguing standing figure formed from panels of tanned hide with woven textile underneath. Entitled "Shaman w/ Drum," this figure was created by artist Helen Smith in 1972 and entered into the 12th annual Alaska Festival of Native Arts (May 27-June 19, 1977), for which she received an honorable mention. The figure stands atop a pair of painted hide snowshoes while wearing a chocolate brown snowsuit. He holds a circular drum made from a dried hide panel and sinew in one hand and a wooden beater in the other. His hooded, yellow-hued face bears black-painted facial hair, eyebrows, and eyes, and within his mouth are two rows of hide teeth. Size: 10.25" W x 18.25" H (26 cm x 46.4 cm); 18.3" H (46.5 cm) on included custom stand.
