Native American, Eastern to Midwestern United States, Eastern Woodland period, ca. 200 to 1000 CE. A large stone tool with a petaloid shape, much like a massive scraper or earth-moving hoe, with polished and worked faces. The blade has a narrow profile, and the edges are sharpened along the entire circumference. A groove is cut diagonally along one face and near the narrow tip of the other face, perhaps to facilitate a cord to haft the blade to a wooden handle. Size: 6.5" L x 5" W (16.5 cm x 12.7 cm)
Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
