Jules Gerard, also known as the lion killer, was a 19th-century French explorer and expert on weapons. He earned his nickname for his relentless pursuit of lion hunting, killing nearly 30 lions over the course of his hunting career. The events of his hunting adventures were published in English for the first time shortly after his death in 1856. This book, The Adventures of Gerard, describes his excursions in Africa and is supplemented with full-page illustrations.

Possibly William Pearson of the 3rd Alabama Infantry. The 3rd Alabama Infantry Regiment was mustered in at Montgomery, Alabama in April 1861 and fought in some of The Civil Wars most bloody battles, including Seven Pines, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Antietam, Gettysburg and The Wilderness. A monument to the 3rd is located on Oak Hill under the name ONeals Brigade.
