Description

Classic 1840s 1860s single twist copper bugle with brass bell garland. This single twist copper pattern first appears in England in the War of 1812 and Napoleonic Wars. Virtually identical to the US made bugles of the 1840 to 1860 period. This one is maker marked by Potter of London. It also bears a unit marking IO.K / A.V. . Henry Potter began making bugles in 1810. His later pieces from the Boer War and WW1 are very common. His early horns are very scarce. This bugle is a classic 1840 to 1860 style and bears the early style maker's stamping in the bell. This isn't some *maybe* Civil War era bugle... this one is 100% for sure pre 1865. Perfect for display with Confederate artifacts due to the English connection and the fact that the south depended on England to supply much of its military material. I am unaware of any horns being produced in the Confederacy, and all documented southern used instruments I have seen were pre war US made or European imports. Good condition with the bell garland having separated from the bell for a few inches. The photos of buglers are for illustration only. Each bugler is carrying this style.
