"It seemed that there was a conscious effort in TERROR to adhere to a more 'classical' concept of horror rather than the unique formula that EC had developed in the comics, of 'bad-taste jokes' featuring physical dismemberment, like the famous 'Foul Play.' ...Did this emphasis on 'classic' horror represent an attempt to distance the book from the 'horror comics' that had such a bad reputation? Or was it felt the approach would be more likely to attract adult readers?" — John Benson, The Complete Terror Illustrated. Gemstone: 2006.
