Description: HOKUJU was one of HOKUSAI's foremost pupils. His drawing style was an innovation to Japanese landscape prints: influenced by Western copperplate prints, the artist adopted Western perspective and gave the prints a three-dimensional effect: note the way the clouds are drawn, and the existence of shadows; these woodblock prints are called: "uki-e" ('Perspective prints"). Original impressions from the 1820s are extemely RARE.
