Group of Ancient Peruvian Textiles. Provenance: ex Jean Lions Collection, Geneva, Switzerland (1951-1980). Group of Ancient Peruvian Textiles. Including: 1) Three belt fragments and tassel, Inca Culture, c.1400-1550 CE, Peru. Belt with serial images of Chaska, Venus, the morning star and a chuspa (Coca bag) tassel; 2) Mantle Border, Chimu Culture, c.1200-1550 CE, Peru. Extremely fine alpaca tapestry strip weaving of paired monkeys in an enclosure with twin fringe; 3) Tunic border,Moche / Wari culture, c. 700-1000 CE, Huarmey, Peru. Four selvedged alpaca tapestry border formerly attached to the bottom of a cotton tunic composed of 30 serial trophy heads; 4) Mantle Border,Chimu Culture, c.1200-1550 CE, Peru. Alpaca tapestry border to a cotton plain weave mantle with a row of alternating directional bird profiles. Certainly, this drawing of the bird had conceptual content. Delicate outer fringe applied in a characteristic Chimu design format; 5) Headband fragment, Wari Culture, c.700-1000 CE, Peru. Tapestry fragment of a mans headband with a ferocious serpent with whiskers, perhaps a giant catfish; 6) Central band of a Tunic, Lambayeque culture, c. 900-1300 CE, Peru. Fine tapestry strip with waves and Avian roundels of very rare north coast Lambayeque culture weaving; 7) Complete headband,Wari Culture, c, 600-900 CE,Peru. Man’s declarative headband common during Wari cultural domination. Generally red with highlighted panels of very individualistic stylized mythical animal drawings; 8) Three Headband fragments, Wari Culture, c,700-1000 CE, Peru. Alpaca tapestry fragments of narrow Wari men’s headbands with profile Harpy Eagles. Ranging in Size from: 3'' x 1.5'' (8 x 4 cm) to 3'' x 1.5'' (8 x 4 cm).
