Description
For your consideration is a rare KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur) Berlin porcelain plaque with a view of Cologne, Germany, across the River Rhein. This plaque was created by KPM's master porcelain decorator Julius Wilhelm Menzel in 1924. The reverse of the plaque is inscribed "200. / Deutsches Land / Koln a/ Rhein / v J. Menzel / 1924". The reverse also carries the appropriate blue KPM sceptre mark below which a red imperial "KPM" orb is located. Above the sceptre mark is a mark reading "163a/62". Additionally, there is a partial paper label on the reverse thought to be original to this offering. The plaque measures 10"in diameter.
In the landscape depicted on this plaque, one notices the cathedral towering over the city. Cologne's cathedral, the largest Gothic church in northern Europe, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996; it is the city’s major landmark and unofficial symbol.
