Description
For your consideration is a rare KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur) Berlin porcelain plaque with a view of Schloss Wilhelmshohe of Kassel, Germany. This plaque was created by KPM's master porcelain decorator Julius Wilhelm Menzel in 1924. The reverse of the plaque is inscribed " 163/62 / 179. / Deutsches Land / Schlofs Wilhelmshohe b/ Cassel / v J. Menzel / 1924". The reverse also carries the appropriate blue KPM sceptre mark below which is a red imperial "KPM" orb. Above the sceptre mark is a mark reading "4776 / M.M.". Additionally, there is a partial paper label on the reverse thought to be original to this offering. The plaque measures 10"in diameter.
Schloss Wilhelmshöhe is a Neoclassical palace located in Bad Wilhelmshöhe, a part of Kassel, Germany. It was built for Landgrave Wilhelm (William) IX of Hesse in the late 18th century. Emperor Wilhelm II made extensive use of it as a summer residence and personal retreat.
Today, the palace houses the art gallery Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, part of Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel. Since 2013, Schloss Wilhelmshöhe has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe.
