Wilson Alwyn Bentley (American/Vermont, 1865-1931). "Snowflake", photomicrograph. Dated verso, framed. Note: Bentley perfected a process of catching snowflakes on frozen black velvet covered boards and then capturing their images using a camera attached to a microscope. Reverend Henry Crocker, an amateur scientist himself, helped Bentley with his work and submitted articles on the micrographs to various scientific publications, increasing Bentley's notoriety in his own lifetime.
