Description
Bruckmann & Sohne (German, 1805-1973), late 19th to early 20th century. Impressive oversized parcel-gilt.800 silver neo-gothic standing historicism covered cup or punch bowl, having a lobed-form with artichoke-form finial above a pierced scrolled foliate knop, the body of the bowl with chased scrolled foliate band framed by pierced trefoils, rising on a spreading stem with gadrooned doomed foot. Maher's hallmarks to the underside of foot with "No 10931" and "14". Note: Bruckmann & Sohne was one of the oldest and notable German silversmiths of the 19th and 20th century. They exhibited at the 1873 Vienna exhibition and received a Gold Medal at the Nuremberg exhibition of 1885. Provenance: A similar cup was offered at Van Ham Art Auctions, Cologne DE, November 18, 2020, lot 254. Approx. h. 18.5", dia. 11.25"; total approx. weight, 110.651 ozt.
