Description
Edgar William Brandt (French,1880-1960), circa 1910. Patinated bronze vase, having a tapering swelled body, decorated with cascading seaweed, on domed foot. Apparently unmarked. Exhibition History: 1910 Society Des Artistes Francais in Paris, France. Published: Joan Kahr, "Edgar Brandt: Master of Art Deco Iron Work", Harry N. Abrams (New York City, New York),1999, page 37. Provenance: Mr. Gary Calderwood, Calderwood Gallery: Decorative Arts 1900-1950, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania whereby acquired by Mr. Robert Wellborn, Alta Loma, California in 1996. Note: Item accompanied with copies of invoice from Calderwood Gallery dated May 17th, 1996 to Mr. Wellborn; a copy of a letter from Mr. Wellborn to Mr. J. Alastair Duncan (New York) regarding the authentication of the item; a copy of a facsimile from Mr. Duncan to Mr. Wellborn in response to his correspondence in December of 1996; a copy of a letter from Christie's East regarding their interest in placing the vase on their June 11th, 1996 auction; and a copy of an image of the vase indicating that it was exhibited in the Societe des Artistes Francais in 1910. Approx. h. 19.8", dia. 10.5" (base).

Variations to patination; some scratches; no apparent restorations.
