vii, [3], 327, [1] + [4] ad pp. Frontis. & 7 color plates by Charles Livingston Bull. Blue-green cloth lettered in white on front cover, in gilt on spine, cover illustration in black & white. First Edition.
Signed and inscribed by Eliza London Shepard on a blank page at front: "To Joe and Isabelle with best wishes for Christmas & the New Year - may health, happiness & [?] be yours during 1936 - and ever after - all love to you- Eliza London Shepard - Jack London Ranch, Glen Ellen Calif. Dec. 25, '35." Eliza Shepard was Jack London's beloved step-sister who came to the ranch in 1910, acting as the ranch superintendent and continued until her death in 1939. With a photograph of Jack London mounted to the front pastedown, and his wolf's head bookplate tipped-in to the front free endpaper. A wonderful association copy of one of London's most popular works. Second issue according to BAL and Woodbridge, with the tipped-in title page; Merle Johnson, however, states that the title page was always on a stub, or at least all the copies he examined. At any rate, copies with an integral title-page seem to be virtually unobtainable. BAL 11896; Sisson & Martens, p. 29
