"Lost Country", by Jack Richard Salamanca, published by Simon and Schuster, 1958, First Edition, stated First Printing, signed by the author on the front endpaper.
Original dust jacket with un-clipped price on the front flap [a little soiling; some edge wear, small damages: see photos], hard boards, bright-yellow decorated cloth on spine [a little staining]; author's signature on the front endpaper, 599 pages + one page "About Author", untrimmed page edges, a little browning of pages, very good condition.
Author's first novel which became the basis for the 1961 film "Wild in the Country", starring Elvis Presley.Jack Richard Salamanca [1922-2013] was an American writer and professor emeritus at the University of Maryland. His first novel, "The Lost Country" (1958), was made into "Wild in the Country", a 1961 film directed by Phillip Dunne, starring Elvis Presley, Hope Lang and Tuesday Weld; his second Novel, "Lilith", was filmed as "Lilith" in 1964, starring Warren Beatty.
Salamanca was born in St.Petersburg, Florida, grew up in Florida and Virginia, and served for three years in the Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the Royal Academy of Music and the University of London and served as a professor of English and creative writing at the University of Maryland for many years.
