Persian carpet; Iran, 1950s.Wool and silk.200.000 knots/m2.Measurements: 355 x 245 cm.Persian carpet which presents a field of red colour with reserves towards the corners and vegetable elements joined with stems arranged in a way that resembles a dome with apses, and around a central motif in the shape of a star or flower. The border is composed of seven bands plus a thin outer border. In the centre is a larger band with synthesised stem decoration on a blue background. The six bands, three on each side of the central band, have a simpler ornamentation based on alternating colours.Persian rugs have a great popularity and reputation due to their technical and ornamental quality. Those of greatest value are made of wool and silk, and their ornamentation is notable for the use of a medallion in the central area, which is accompanied by other vegetal elements.
