Description
An interesting Norwegian silver cane of a repeated facial image. The silver knob handle is 2 1/8" high and 1 1/4" across the top. It is owner initialed "L.B." on the top and the sides depict repeated facial images of an early nobleman with moustache and beard. (The man could be King Olaf, 10th Century Norwegian monarch, who had similar facial hair and is noted in history for his promotion of Christianity, sometimes by violent means.) The handle is marked "830" for the silver content and there are Norwegian hallmarks. The shaft is island wood that ends with a 1 1/8" horn ferrule. The overall length is 34 1/2" and the condition is very good. It is ca 1885, and it is a very fine silver example from Norway. Estimate: $500-$700.
