Two (2) Thomas McKenney (1785-1859) and James Hall (1793-1868) hand-colored lithographs depicting bust portraits of historical Native American leaders from HISTORY OF THE INDIAN TRIBES OF NORTH AMERICA. Includes one (1) CA-TA-HE-CAS-SA-BLACK HOOF, PRINCIPAL CHIEF OF THE SHAWANOES and one (1) META-KOOSEGA, A CHIPPEWAY WARRIOR, after paintings by Charles Bird King (District of Columbia/Rhode Island, 1785-1862), printed by John T. Bowen, and published by Frederick W. Greenough, Philadelphia, circa 1836-37. Titles and publication information, lower center. Both float mounted and housed under glass in matching wooden frames. Sheets: 19 3/4" H x 14 1/2" W. Frames: 28 1/4" H x 22" W.Provenance: The Estate of David B. Person, Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Condition
Both images with toning. Ca-Ta-He-Cas-Sa-Black Hoof print with toning impression from text sheet, areas of acid burn, largest 1" x 1 1/4", area of loss to top left corner, pencil inscription, lower left, and foxing spots. Not examined outside of frames.
