Christian Karel Appel (Dutch, 1921-2006) was a multimedia artist who first began his art education at the age of fourteen. In addition to his painting, Appel was a passionate sculptor whose three-dimensional work is housed and displayed at some of the leading museums of art in the world -- including New York's Museum of Modern Art.
