Description
This lot consists of a framed oil painting on unstretched canvas, done in the Indigenous Canadian style of modern artist Norval Morrisseau (Canadian, 1932-2007). Image depicts an Indigenous person with brilliantly colored tribal attire. Handwritten inscription at left is a signature written in native language, Unframed canvas dimensions measure approximately 20.5" x 17.5".
Norval Morrisseau (Canadian, 1932-2007) was known as the 'Picasso of the North'. Morrisseau was an Indigenous Canadian artist from the Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation who created artwork that reflected his own spirituality, his people's culture, Canadian political tensions, and some of the universal existential struggles known to mankind.
