Description
Vsemirnaya Kooperatsiya [Global Cooperation] a poster by Benedict Telingater (1878-1960), to the text of Gimn Kooperatsii [Anthem of the Cooperation Movement], that was clearly modeled after Pottier's The International. Published by the Organizational Department of the Azerbaijan Union of Consumer Cooperatives (Azsoyuz), Baku, 1927, 76 x 53 cm.
The poster is signed in the plate BENO, a pseudonym often used by Benedict “Beno” Telingater, an important Tbilisi and Baku theater artist, interior designer, caricaturist, and posterist. Telingater's services were in demand under every regime - he designed the stamps of Musavatist Azerbaijan in 1919, and later was asked to design the Arms of the Azerbaijan Soviet Republic. If we are not mistaken, Solomon Telingater, the famous Soviet book illustrator and font maker, was Beno Telingater's son.
