Description
A FERDINAND BARBEDIENNE SILVER PLATED BRONZE CENTERPIECE BOWL, SIGNED, FRENCH, 19TH CENTURY, in the French Neoclassical Revival style, of oval form and with a flat rim above a pierced cavetto of nicely chased and cast acanthine Vitruvian scrolls centering stylized florets partitioned by seashell pendants, above a curling tipped tapering shield enclosing a maiden beauty's mask within thick curly tresses and suspending blossoming garlands mounted on a lappet paneled bombé body, flanked by grimacing beastly mask handles with tall crossed loop horns and raised on acanthus leaf and stem cast feet, enclosing a removable conforming liner and right side engraved "F. BARBEDIENNE." Height: 12 3/8" Width: 27 3/4" Depth: 22 1/2"  Note: Ferdinand Barbedienne (French 1810-18902) was one of the top bronzers known throughout the world and located in Paris. This impressive Barbedienne centerpiece bowl is beautifully cast with crisp details and similar silvered bronze centerpieces of this size by his foundry rarely come up for auction.
Condition
Good condition with expected light surface wear, small scratches, some dings, patches of plating wear, and normal tarnish in crevices throughout. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
