Description
A GROUP OF SEVENTEEN DAGUERREOTYPE, AMBROTYPE, AND TINTYPE PHOTOGRAPHS, AMERICAN, 1860-1900, in elaborate relief gutta percha or leather and wood cases with repoussé gilt liners, comprising a collection including a (possibly) post mortem gentleman with white knit or crocheted shawl, circa 1855; a couple, the man wears a flat brim straw hat and wide flat collar over twill suit while and the lady has a large flower hat, a chiffon ribbon and pearl brooch, a polka dot shirt pinned with a watch, her belt hung with a leather clutch bag over a high waisted floor length knot and line embroidered skirt, circa 1900; a man with bowler hat sitting in wagon hitched to workhorse, 1850-1900; a couple, the gentleman with parted hair, large tie and pocket watch sits with a lady with braided bow hair style wearing gold earrings, necklace and cabochon brooch penned to a lace collar and gingham silk taffeta dress with warp motif and matching fringed shawl, 1850-1860; trio of portly women in American civil war era fashion, probably a widowed mother and daughters, 1860-1870; a diptych couple, the woman with bonnet and lace collar wearing a double pinstripe velvet trimmed dress with a gentlemen with weathered, crinkled brow and silk tie, circa 1855; two young men, one with ruddy cheeks standing by a bobbin turned chair, the other young man using a posing stand, a straw boater hat on a carpet covered cast iron table, circa 1900; three women in Scotch turban style hats, circa 1865; a Confederate Soldier "...killed in the war between the states," and Freemason Madison Smith dressed in freemasonry regalia, with hand inscribed note on the reverse, 1860-1865; two young women with pink lapels, 1860-1870; two young men smoke cigars and embrace comically, 1860-1870; an old man with blue eyes and young woman in a flower motif white dress with jewelry, circa 1860; a group of girls in off the shoulder dress fashion, 1865-1875; and two brothers embracing, circa 1860, plate sizes ranging from ninth plate to sixth plate, largest case height: 4 1/8", width: 5", depth: 1".
