Two Original Albumen Photos From the Aftermath of the Wounded Knee Massacre
The photographs were taken by Northwestern Photo Co. of Chadron, Nebraska, whose company is well known for documenting the aftermath of the Wounded Knee massacre. One photo shows a gathering of Lakota Sioux, with the "Indian School" of the Pine Ridge Agency in the background. During the time preceding the Massacre, children wouldn't be allowed to leave this school, effectively held hostage in order to control their parents. The second photo is entitled "Sioux Indians, gathering for the 'Beef Issue'. P.R. Agency, S.D. 6/10-1891". Each photo measures 7" x 4", mounted on album mats to 10" x 7". Soiling and buckling to mats, but photos are very good, with especially good contrast to "Beef Issue" photo. This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
